En smuk begravelse blev holdt for den sorte teenager Michael Brown, som ubevæbnet blev skudt af en politimand

Familie, aktivister og støtter mødte op i tusindtal for at mindes den dræbte Michael Brown i St. Louis, Missouri. Begravelsen blev holdt med gospel og lovtale i en fuldstændig fyldt kirke. Den kasket, Michael Brown havde på, da han blev skuddræbt af en hvid politimand, var placeret oven på kisten.

Begravelsen foregik i ro og orden. Bydelen Ferguson, hvor Brown blev dræbt den 9. august, har ellers været plaget af uro, der har blotlagt dybe spændinger mellem sorte og hvide i det amerikanske samfund. USA-eksperter mener, at landet stadig kæmper med en stor, racemæssig udfordring. 

Der er meget stor forskel på, hvordan hvide og sorte opfatter raceproblemerne. 
 
Det amerikanske analyseinstitut PEW har lavet en undersøgelse af, hvordan amerikanerne forholder sig til drabet i Ferguson. Undersøgelsen viser, at 80 procent af de sorte amerikanerne mener, at sagen rejser vigtige spørgsmål i raceproblematikken. Kun 37 procent af de hvide amerikanere mener det samme.
